Democracy 2.0 — Quote of the Day — Dr. Nancy Bordier PhD
News coming out of America these days has us all thinking, both here in our own country as well as abroad. This morning in a conversation with a highly creative, artistic first cousin of mine, who resides in Italy, it was no surprise that we spent a more than ten minutes on the topic of American politics and the state our democracy. It is always important to get a view from the outside when it comes to political news, to world events. The filters are different. Collect more than one view, and what emerges is a more objective view of the state of affairs, which often contrasts with what mainstream American news conveys. What emerged during our conversations, to no surprise, was a European sense that America’s democracy has dissipated, and weakened. Even more disappointing was the fact that there was growing sense that our values, have shifted towards a more authoritarian stance. According to Economist Intelligence Unit Democracy Index, in 2025 only 6% of world’s countries are a “full democracy”. America, it seems, is no longer part of that exclusive club. No surprise here.
