My Saturday Morning Bronx Tale
Observations on the Social Pyramid, looking from the top down
It is not the first time that I write about things like this. Sometimes you see things and just you got to get it out of your system. You need to think something. You need to say something. You need to write something.
The Bronx is the poorest of the NYC boroughs. The poverty rate in the Bronx was 27.9% in 2023 compared to 18.2% citywide according to 2023 data complied data by the New York University Furman Center. Media portrays it in infamous light. My European cousins, tell me to be careful when I visit, to be attentive. The 1970s cult movie, The Warriors, did AA good job and defining the Bronx legacy.
[author’s note] Inspired by my many trips to the Bronx, my old stomping ground]
It is a world of opposites, easily observable, especially if you sit or stroll along its streets, and ethnic enclaves and densely populated urban neighborhoods.
The Observations
A black man with over-sized sneakers, and no socks. Cracked heels and feet.
Multiple Porsche Cayenne and Macan Turbos, irregularly parked in the Municipal Lot, bearing Jersey plates.
