Anti-liberalism. It is happening all over again. Or is it ?
Making sense of America’s periodic, polarizing Illiberalism and “Pink Haired Marxists”
I recently started exploring Robert Kagan’s works and positions. My interests were sparked by a YouTube video featuring CNN journalist Cristiana Amanpour interviewing this well known scholar, Washington Post columnist, a senior fellow at Brookings Institute, talented historian and, “hard-liner” neoconservative, proponent of liberal interventionism in which the US plays and needs to continue to play the leading role in the World. [1]
I won’t get offended if you label me a sucker for clickbait. In this specific case, the YouTube video title “Trump is a ‘wrecker,’ says historian Robert Kagan” quickly caught my attention. [2] And it was not because of the reference to our favorite ex-New Yorker billionaire developer, turned media celebrity and reality TV showman, turned politician, and now, likely political boomerang American president. Well, in all honesty, I must say that I have a lot of respect for Ms. Amanpour. [3] Her background fascinates me as does the journalistic professionalism that she demonstrates interview after interview. The fact that she interviewed Dr. Kagan, pushed me to want to find out more about the subject. Who is Kagan? What does he have to say?
