America’s Gun Problem: Cowardly Blame and Denial
Amongst developed countries, only in America is gun violence acceptable.
Another day, another mass shooting. This is the sad, yet accepted reality of gun violence in America. In less than 10 days, two significant mass shootings have taken place. Just in time for the holiday season. A gunman, an enraged manager at Walmart kills 6, and then take his own life. This senseless act of violence took place , just days after what was another despicable killing spree.
On November 19 2022 , another gunman , armed with a “long rifle” kills five , injures 17 before being heroically stopped by an unarmed patron at Club O. This time, the target was clearly the LGBT community in Colorado Springs, an indisputable hate crime. [3]]4]
This article is in reaction to these senseless , hate inspired killings. I am deeply saddened. But I am also deeply disappointed in an America that I have loved so for long, a place that has given me so much opportunity, a better life as one of many of the Southern Italian immigrants that made their way to this country. Things have been changing and it seems as that all we do is in hyper-defensive ways blame and deny, rather than address and tackle theroot causes of gun violence in America.
